description Season for Peak Fees: 05/15 to 09/15 Calaveras Big Trees State Park was created to protect two groves of Giant Sequoias, some of the world's largest and most magnificent trees. The story of the park includes a rich history dating back thousands of years, which involves the original Native American people, and discovery of the Big Trees by European immigrants here in 1852. In the park you will find majestic pines, flowing rivers and creeks, abundant wildlife and verdant meadows as well as opportunities to camp, fish, hike, swim, take photographs, and more. The Visitor Center (new in 2014) hosts beautiful displays, a new film, and gift shop. importantInformation There will be campsites open in North Grove campground all winter on a first-come-first-served basis. Between December 1st and the end of February, there will be NO restrooms or water in the campground (DRY CAMPING ONLY). Campers must be self-contained, and they need to be prepared for winter conditions, including heavy snow and chain control. Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in. Your DMV Disabled Placard/License Plate does not automatically give you a discount on your campsite. You will need to obtain a CA State park-issued Disabled Discount Pass (DDP) or Distinguished Veterans Pass (DVP). The maximum number of vehicles allowed to park in each campsite is 2; motorhomes and trailers count as vehicles. Your reservation fee pays for one vehicle only. Your second vehicle, and other subsequent vehicles, will be charged an extra vehicle fee for each night's stay in the campground. If you have more than two vehicles in the park, then the extra vehicles will be required to park in overflow parking - you may not park more than two vehicles in your campsite. Overflow parking is limited, please plan accordingly. When towing a trailer into the park, you are not required to pay the extra vehicle payment for each night's stay in the park; however, the trailer still counts towards your two vehicle maximum per campsite. ATVs are not permitted to operate within the Calaveras Big Trees State Park. All roadways are State Highways, and all DMV and California Vehicle Codes apply.
