Camp Four and a Half Cabin located along the King's River at an elevation of 1,100 feet in the Sequoia National Forest. The campgrounds sits within the Sequoia National Monument, about 60 miles east of Fresno, California. The cabin was built in 1957. Until the early 1980s, the cabin was used as a residence and office by various Forest Service rangers and their families. The cabin has been restored to the current condition through the efforts of dedicated volunteers and employees. |

From Fresno, California take Highway 180 to Academy Avenue. Turn left (north) andproceed one mile to the intersection with Belmont Avenue. Turn right(east) on Belmont. Proceed east on Belmont which turns into Trimmer Springs Road. In about 13 miles you will pass through the tinycommunity of Piedra, your last opportunity to purchase supplies and gas.This store is only open during the day. After about 42 miles you will cross the KingsRiver bridge and continue onto paved Forest Service Road 12S01. The road turns to dirt after a mile, and the cabin is located nearly a mile further down 12S01. |

The cabin is equipped with a generator to provide electricity, a heater and swamp cooler. The two-bedroom, one-bath cabin has beds for six people, with two twin beds, a queen and a double hide-a-bed, all with pillows. The kitchen has propane stove and refrigerator, kitchen table and benches and dishes pots and pans. The living area offers a couch and reclining chair. There is a tub/shower combination and toilet in the bathroom. Toilet paper, bath soap and garbage bags are provided. Outdoors, there are five lawn chairs, a grill and picnic table. There is also room outdoors to pitch tents for additional guests. Guests should bring linens, towels and all food items. |

Guests are expected to clean the entire cabin upon departure; all cleaning supplies, including a vacuum, are provided The cabin is locked with a combination lock; guests should call the Hume Lake Ranger Station at 559-338-2251 five days before arrival for the cabin door combination Guests should bring trash bags and pack out all garbage Absolutely no pets. No additional RVs can be parked at the cabin. This cabin is to be used as a Recreational Rental Cabin for families and friends. It is not intended to be used by large groups, or as a base camp for reunions, meetings, or receptions. The cabin is not close to either of the National Parks or any of the giant sequoia groves within the Giant Sequoia National Monument. It is secluded, quiet, and next to the lower portion of the Kings River. Guests can fish, swim, kayak or white water raft in the Kings's River. The river is swift and cold and can be dangerous at peak flows in April through June but becomes very tranquil in late summer and fall. There are three whitewater rafting companies that provide guided trips on this section of the Kings River from mid April through early July. The section of the Kings River from Garnet Dike to Pine Flat Lake is open to fishing year round with a two fish limit. A fishing permit is required; ( click here for details ). There are trails on both the north and south side of the river for hiking and horseback riding and roads for off-road vehicles. The area is great for wildlife viewing, bird watching and artistic pursuits such as painting and photography. |
