description This small, family friendly campground is located on the banks of Independence Creek, just a half mile outside the town of Independence, the Inyo County seat. The Eastern California Museum is nearby, and the Manzanar Japanese American Internment Camp, which is now a National Historic Site, is just six miles away. The gentle stream is regularly stocked with trout, and the surrounding open land can be explored on foot, bike and on ATVs traveling on existing dirt roads. A paved road provides access to Onion Valley, a striking Sierra landscape where a short hike leads to the John Muir Wilderness, dozens of high Sierra lakes and access to the Pacific Crest and John Muir trails.
drivingDirection Via U.S. 395, turn west in Independence on Market Street, 1-mile to campground.
