Season for Peak Fees: 05/15 to 09/15 Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park, a forested 3,000-acre park, is the site of California's largest hydraulic gold mine. Visitors can see huge cliffs carved by mighty streams of water, results of the gold-mining technique of washing away entire mountains to find the precious metal. Legal battles between mine owners and downstream farmers ended this method. The park also contains a 7,847-foot bedrock tunnel that serves as a drain. The visitor center has exhibits on life in the old mining town of North Bloomfield. Check the State Parks website for additional information on the weather, suggested day hikes, or to see the park brochure, campground map, park photos, video, and more. Discount Pass must be presented at the time of check in. Your DMV Disabled Placard/License Plate does not automatically give you a discount on your campsite. You will need to obtain a CA State park-issued Disabled Discount Pass (DDP) or Distinguished Veterans Pass (DVP). WARNING: A car may not be sufficient to protect your food and belongings, even if the car is locked up. Bears can break into cars if they smell anything of interest. Camp at your own risk! By choosing to enter or camp at Malakoff Diggins SP you assume the risk of personalinjury or property damaged caused by bears. Fees include entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle or trailer, additional vehicles will be charged per night at the park. Although your site may hold 2 or more vehicles, your reservation only covers 1 vehicle (except for group or specialty sites). To book a Group site you must have at least NINE occupants. Family and Group Camp: Reservations are available May 26 - September 30, 2017; CLOSED when not on reservations. Cabins: Reservations are available May 1 - September 30, 2017; CLOSED when not on reservations. |
