description Camping on Catalina is a unique experience and very different than camping on the mainland. Two Harbors is a highly secluded village located on the west end of the island at the isthmus. From Two Harbors it is just a half mile walk across the isthmus to Cat Harbor. The isthmus offers breathtaking Pacific Ocean views from both sides of the island and the campground features the low key quiet atmosphere of semi-primitive camping without the full isolation from everyday amenities such as hot showers, groceries, restaurant and bar which are located in the village nearby. Once here, the main mode of transportation is your own two feet. Hiking is the most popular activity but Two Harbors also offers crystal clear water and a pristine and easily accessible sandy beach. The boat and dive shop located in the village provides the needed rental gear to explore the area by mountain bike, kayak, SUP or skiff. Snorkel, scuba and fishing gear are also available for rent. Camping is one of the best ways to enjoy Santa Catalina IslandâÂÂs rugged beauty. The Two Harbors campground sits on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean and itâÂÂs located just a quarter-mile outside the village of Two Harbors. The campground features 42 individual sites, 13 tent cabins and multiple group-camping areas including Brisa de Mar and Bahia Azul. For your convenience, rangers rent equipment and supplies and will deliver it directly to your site. Scheduled gear hauls to and from the campground are an additional service guest may take advantage of during their stay. It is best to arrange travel with the Catalina Express direct from San Pedro to Two Harbors. The Safari Bus from Avalon to Two Harbors runs daily but seats are very limited. There is no scheduled ferry between Avalon and Two Harbors.
drivingDirection In order to reach the island, boat transportation is the most popular and easiest way to travel. Catalina Express passenger boats leave from San Pedro, Long Beach and Dana Point. The Catalina Flyer departs from Newport Beach. All of those ports access Avalon, on the east end of the island. In order to travel to Two Harbors (the Isthmus) on the west end of the island, passenger boats leave from San Pedro only . Boat transportation is for people, no vehicles allowed. Another way to reach the island is by private boat or plane/helicopter. The Safari Bus from Avalon to Two Harbors runs daily but seats are very limited and reservations are required. The Safari Bus is not a tour. It is transportation between Two Harbors and Avalon with stops at Black Jack trailhead, Catalina Airport In-the-Sky and a bus change at Little Harbor. There is no scheduled ferry between Avalon and Two Harbors.
