HIKING: Paces Mill

Triple Blaze →

Description

Paces Mill offers running and walking trails along the banks of the Hooch (Chattahoochee River). A rushing waterfall, a trek up Rottenwood Creek to see the ruins of historic Akers Mill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akers_Mill ), 3.6 miles of paved trail, and even more unpaved trails are a treat for all.

The paved portion is enjoyed by runners and those who enjoy gentle terrain. Getting off the paved portion allows for great views of the Hooch including Long Island Shoals, Devil Race Course Shoals and a dense urban forest climbing up to a 1000 foot elevation from the 800 foot elevation of the Hooch.

There is a daily parking fee or the opportunity to purchase an annual pass at an automated machine at the Paces Mill parking area. The annual pass is a great deal as it covers parking at the 16 parking areas along the 48 mile Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
