MOUNTAIN BIKING: Lower Loop

Single Tracks →

Description

The Lower Loop offers some of the easiest singletrack in Crested Butte... and it's
also some of the most beautiful! The valley it rolls through is ringed with
gorgeous peaks and it offers breathtaking views of the clear Slate River winding
through the bottom of the valley. While this is most definitely a beginner trail,
there are a couple of small climbs and descents and some technical sections
spread throughout. Also, this trail is at 9,000 feet, so even super easy riding can
sometimes feel very difficult!

Even for the advanced ride, the Lower Loop is worth a look. While it might not
be challenging at all, the trail is superbly designed and turns into an uber flowy
roller coaster at speed!

The Lower Loop trail itself is only 2 miles long, but there are several other trails
that connect to it, including the Upper Lower Loop, that can be easily turned
into a great 10-12 mile ride. Read through some of the other trail descriptions
for more information, and investing in a good map or a guidebook is definitely be
a great idea!

Directions

You can connect to this trail directly from Crested Butte Via Butte Avenue and

Peanut Lake Road. On the other end, you can park just off the bottom of the

Gunsight Pass Road which splits off of the Slate River Road.
