MOUNTAIN BIKING: Lupine Trail

Single Tracks →

Description

The Lupine Trail is almost exactly 2 miles one-way. If you rode it as an out-and-
back, it would be a 4 mile route. Looping it from town is at least that much,
probably a bit more.

This is a brand-new trail that was just constructed by CBMBA. As of this writing,
it is so new that it is not on a single map and the trail signs consist of laminated
computer paper on little stakes in the ground. This trail is about as fresh as they
come!

It's an excellent ride, too. This little 2 mile trail incorporates a little bit of
everything including swoopy descending in a classic CB meadow, turns through
the aspens, beautifully bench-cut singletrack with some very serious exposure,
and a section of awesome bermed turns allowing you to just rip through that
section of the descent! The bottom of the trail is a little bit of a buzz kill with a
boring gravel road and 3 cattle gates to open AND CLOSE, but after the
excellent ride up above, it's hard to complain!

Directions

From the town of Crested Butte (I recommend riding from town), head north on

Highway 135 towards Mount Crested butte. Go a little ways up the mountain

past Slate River Road and turn left into the Saddle Ridge Subdivision. Ride up

the road until the culdesac at the end, and the trail begins right there.

There is NO parking in the subdivision. However, there IS parking at the bottom

of the trail on Slate River Road. If you'd like, you can drive over there, park

there, and ride up Lupine and descend back down for an out-and-back, or you

can work this trail into a larger ride. It's up to you!
