MOUNTAIN BIKING: Right Hand/ Barret Creek

Single Tracks →

Description

This was a classic MTB ride in the Needle Creek area. Don't let the mileage fool you this was a hard ride with some tricky technical sections. Right Hand Trail starts at Needle Creek reservoir watch for it on the right. Right Hand is a nice climb along the creek through the aspens. As the trail nears the trail nears the ridge there is some hike-a-bike to the top. A short downhill section to Barret Creek Trail. Turn right and ride through a beautiful meadow to the saddle. Ride past North Gulch Trail on the left. The first part of the descent is steep and way fun! There are some sections of smooth singletrack. The lower part of Barret Creek follows old logging roads more like an ATV track now. The trail was well marked and obvious. The trail ends at a road turn right and cross the creek . Start the long climb back up to Needle Creek reservoir. After a short distance you will come to an intersection turn right and continue climbing up the valley. Right through a gate pass a water trough then another gate. The road is more. obvious now. Follow the main road to the top of the hill. One more fun descent back down to Needle Creek Reservoir. Although I thought the route was easy to follow it's rated as difficult so take a map or guide book.

Directions

From Gunnison drive18 miles east on HWY 50 to Doyleville follow CR 45 south about 1 mile to CR 46 turn left. Continue 1.5 miles to CR 47 turn right. From here its probably easiest to follow the signs to Needle Creek Reservoir. Park just before the reservoir.
