MOUNTAIN BIKING: North Shore Trail

Single Tracks →

Description

There were sections of singletrack that were excellent, and there were some technical rock strewn ups and downs that were challenging. This was all good. The technical sections of this trail are quickly becoming trials sections due to erosion especially toward the end of the trail. Poor markings. This is a common problem with multi-purpose trails. There are gates at the road crossings which can cause you some issues. There are paved sections incorparted into the system and the biggest issue is the two way loop. Beware of oncomming traffic – The trail can be crowded with a variety of riders from slower free ride types to screaming fast wanna be DH types to hikers.

Directions

Take Highway 26 (either to or from Grapevine, depending on which way you're going) until you get to Fairway Drive, just about a mile west of the Airport Hilton. Turn north on Fairway Drive (only way you can turn right now!), and just after you drive over the dam, you'll see Griffis Corner store to your right, and just before it to your left will be the entrance to Rock Ledge Park. Drive all the way to the back of the park along the lake and park. You can see the trail from the parking lot. There is usually water here. Sneaky Pete's Trailhead: (LAT 33deg 00' 00" LONG 97deg 05' 58") Take FM3040 from Lewisville and go west until it crosses 2499. Continue west and take the second left (the first left turn goes nowhere) onto McKamy Creek Road. Follow it until it T's into Simmons. Turn left at the stop sign at Simmons. At the next stopsign, turn right, and follow along until you see the Marina/Restaurant sign, where you take another right. The parking will be in front of you, about 1/8 mile up. taken from http://www.Dorba.org
